Drug and Alcohol Testing

Drug and Alcohol Testing

Global OHS provides workplace drug and alcohol testing with a legally defensible chain of custody and point of contact testing. Testing can support routine programmes, for cause concerns, or pre placement checks where your risk assessment justifies it. HSE makes it clear that testing works best as part of an overall policy and risk based approach, not as a standalone fix.

We can also support affected staff through counselling options and signposting to appropriate services. Employers often get better outcomes when they combine clear standards with early, practical support.

Why do I need drug and alcohol testing at work

Drugs and alcohol can damage workplace safety and performance. The risk is obvious in safety critical tasks like machinery use, driving, and work at height. A lapse in attention can cause serious harm. HSE recommends that employers look closely at safety critical elements during risk assessment and plan controls accordingly.

Substance misuse means the sustained use of mind altering substances. That can include legal substances such as alcohol and solvents, as well as illegal drugs. If you introduce testing, you need a fair process and you need consent. GOV.UK guidance also advises employers to limit testing to roles where it is justified and to avoid singling people out without good reason.
