Management Referrals
How can we help?
When work begins to affect an employee’s health, or an employee’s health starts to affect their work, a management referral to Occupational Health provides clarity, structure, and professional guidance.
Management referrals allow employers to access independent, medically informed advice on how best to manage complex situations. Where appropriate, an Occupational Health practitioner will also support the employee by advising on steps they can take to improve or stabilise their health at work.
At Global OHS, our experienced clinicians work with managers to provide clear, practical advice that supports both the employee and the business.

When do I need a management referral?
Managers may refer an employee when there are concerns about health in relation to:
-
performance or capability
-
long-term or frequent sickness absence
-
a return to work following illness or injury
-
potential workplace adjustments
An Occupational Health assessment identifies any relevant health factors and provides objective, evidence-based information to support fair and informed decision-making.
If an employee is currently absent from work, whether short or long term, a management referral report helps you understand:
-
what the employee can and cannot do at work
-
whether reasonable adjustments may be appropriate
-
how to support a safe and sustainable return
Where relevant, we can also advise on cases where the Equality Act 2010 may apply and explain your duties as an employer.
